Do You Need a Dumpster Permit in Myrtle Beach, SC?
Driveway placement is usually permit-free; the public right-of-way may need a city permit. Here's the rule.

7 min read · Permits
One of the first questions Myrtle Beach customers ask is whether they need a permit for a dumpster. The good news: for most residential jobs, the answer is no. But the rules for public streets are worth knowing before a bin shows up, and on the Grand Strand there's the added wrinkle of which town you're actually in. Here's how it works.
On your private property: no permit
If the dumpster sits entirely on your own private property — most commonly your driveway — you do not need a permit. This is the simplest and most common scenario, and it's why we always look at driveway placement first. Your driveway needs to be a flat, paved surface that can bear the weight, and we put boards down to protect it.
On a public street or right-of-way: check with the city
If the bin has to sit on a public street or right-of-way — anywhere off your private property — the local municipality may require a permit or encroachment approval. This applies when a driveway is too small, too steep, or already occupied and the only option is the street. The requirement exists so the town knows what's occupying the roadway and can keep traffic and pedestrians safe.
Which town's rules apply?
The Grand Strand is a patchwork of municipalities — the City of Myrtle Beach, North Myrtle Beach, Surfside Beach, and unincorporated Horry County all have their own areas and rules. Placement in the City of Myrtle Beach follows the city's process; a job out in Carolina Forest or Socastee (unincorporated county) follows the county's. It sounds fiddly, but we handle placements across all of them every week and can tell you in one phone call what applies to your address.
HOAs and rental communities
The Grand Strand is full of HOAs, gated communities, and condo associations — especially in the beach and golf areas. Many have their own rules about how long a bin can stay, where it can sit, and whether it needs to be screened. Check your HOA or association before booking, and make sure our driver has any gate codes or access instructions.
The smarter move: avoid the street entirely
Nine times out of ten, we can find a private-property placement that skips the permit question altogether — a driveway or a spot on a job site. It's faster and it saves you the permit step. We'll always look for that option first.
